Mount Monadnock

Saturday, April 29, 2017 - 10:00am

Mount Monadnock is one of the most-hiked mountains in the world, and one of the first places the Forest Society protected.  You don't have to make it to the summit to experience all the wonders that Mount Monadnock has to offer!  Join Forest Society land steward and Monadnock Trail Crew Member Julie Perron on a beautiful 4 mile loop hike on the southern flanks of the mountain- this off-the-beaten-path loop travels three Monadnock trails (Parker, Lost Farm and Cliff Walk) offering fine views without the crowds along with lush hardwood forests, babbling brooks and boulder outcroppings.

On Saturday, January 7, fifty people hiked from the active timber landing along the Marlboro Trail to see active timber harvesting on 65 acres on the lower slopes of the Forest Society's 4500-acre Monadnock Reservation in Jaffrey.

Start the new year off right with an outdoor excursion!  Join NH State Park and Forest Society staff and land stewards for a 3-mile self-guided hike along the Parker Trail to the Little Mountain Viewpoint. This hike will take approximately 3 hours to complete. For those looking for a more leisurely hike of 2 miles, enjoy a hike along the Parker Trail to the Cliff Walk junction and back. This leisurely hike will take approximately 2 hours on relatively flat terrain. Snowshoes or traction may be helpful depending on conditions.

What are these hikers doing?

The Jolly Rovers Trail Crew is as hardcore as the name suggests.  This all-volunteer group from New York’s Hudson Valley recently spent 10 days working on a project halfway up the slopes of Mount Monadnock, on the heavily traveled White Cross Trail.  They built a rock staircase, 32 steps long, ou

Join us for the 11th annual Monadnock Trails Week!  Volunteers are needed to help refurbish hiking trails on New Hampshire's most hiked mountain, Mount Monadnock.  Projects will include bog bridging, stone staircases, cleaning and/or construction of new waterbars, clearing a nature trail, and more.  No experience is necessary, but you should be willing to get dirty!  Each day runs from 9am-3pm; volunteers can join for just one day, or as many as you like.
