The Carriage Barn, built in 1884, housed horses, cattle, and equipment for over a century. In 2023, the barn was thoughtfully renovated to honor its history and create a center for conservation, collaboration, education, and forest exploration for the 21st century.
The Rocks' trails are open to the public from dawn to dusk. The Carriage Barn at The Rocks is open to visitors Tuesday-Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, including the interactive exhibits and gift shop (the restrooms inside the Carriage Barn are open daily from 6 AM to 8 PM).
Interpretive Exhibits
New Hampshire’s forests are central to our lives – that’s why we’re working to protect them. In an interactive exhibit, you can explore the many benefits of forests to New Hampshire.
A section on Christmas tree farming will explain what wildlife can be found in the fields and how you measure up to a Rocks' fir tree.
Amanda Ennis, a Maliseet basket maker in Maine, created a gold and blue basket that is on display, and her baskets are also for sale in the gift shop.
Self-Guided Walks
Download the Forest Society app, powered by OuterSpatial, and choose from a history walk that explains more about the structures that stood on the property in the Glessners' time or a Christmas tree trail walk* that will explain the process of Christmas tree farming (*The trail is closed from April 1 through November 20 to ensure our staff can care for the Christmas trees in the field.*).
Gift Shop
Visit the gift shop at The Rocks, located in the historic Carriage Barn, which is open year-round and has extended hours during the holiday season.
