The Bretzfelder Park Family Educational series is presented each year in winter and summer by the Forest Society and the Bretzfelder Park Committee. Many of the programs take place in the Tanya Tellman Pavilion at the park, named after the Forest Society's 2020 Conservationist of the Year.

The free programs will take place in person on Wednesday evenings at 6 PM from Febuary 21 through March 6 at Bretzfelder Park on Prospect Road.

The Rocks Renovation with Forest Society staff Anne Truslow and Nigel Manley- March 1, 2023
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Anne Truslow is the Vice President for Development at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. She has worked in land and wildlife conservation in New England and beyond for 25 years, but this is her first adventure in building renovation.
Nigel Manley is the Senior Outreach Manager for the Rocks at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. He served as Christmas Tree Farmer and Director of North Country Operations at The Rocks for over 30 years and continues to deliver and develop interpretive programs.
Black Bears with NHFG's Andrew Timmins- March 8, 2023
Join Andrew Timmins of New Hampshire Fish and Game for an expert talk on bears! Timmins’ presentation will focus on how Fish and Game manages bear populations and cover misconceptions of bear behavior and the challenges that bears face in their own habitats. Timmins will also help us learn how our behavior can decrease human-bear conflicts and keep both communities safe and healthy.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Andrew Timmins has worked for New Hampshire Fish and Game for 28 years, where he just accepted the role as Game Programs Supervisor. His roots will always be with field biology. He has been a bear biologist since 2002, which has allowed him to educate the public on bears and working towards species coexistence, a topic he believes imperative for wildlife biology.

Focus on Forestry with Managing Forester Wendy Weisiger- February 16
Join the Forest Society's managing forester, Wendy Weisiger, to learn about sustainable forestry on Forest Society lands at this virtual presentation on Zoom. The nonprofit organization owns almost 60,000 acres around NH that it manages for multiple purposes, including forestry, habitat and recreation. She’ll explain the Forest Society's land manage philosophy, how we plan and execute responsible timber harvests and how we manage for a diversity of goals. She will answer questions about how landowners can get started in developing a management plan and harvesting on their own woodlots.
About Wendy Weisiger:
Wendy came to work for the Forest Society in 2004 as a forester. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of New Hampshire. She previously worked as a technician for the NH Division of Forests and Lands and as a survey technician for an engineering firm. She is a New Hampshire Licensed Professional Forester and SIT. She has been active in the Society of American Foresters, Project Learning Tree, NH Timberland Owners Association, NH Prescribed Fire Council, NRCS State Advisory Committee and the Tree Farm Program. When not working, she and her cattle dog can usually be found somewhere in the woods hiking, skiing, kayaking, or making stumps.

What does it mean to conserve land? What options might I have to protect my own property as a landowner in New Hampshire? What is a conservation easement? To answer these questions and more, we will explore the basic land conservation options and techniques used by the Forest Society in this virtual program on Zoom.
About Leah Hart:
Leah Hart is a Land Protection Specialist at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. She has worked for land trusts in New Hampshire for more than seven years, helping to care for and protect special places across the state.
