"Hmmm, I want to linger.
Hmmm, A little longer.
Hmmm, A little longer,
Here with you."
Some of you may recognize these lyrics and have sung them, having learned them at summer camp or scout camp years ago. If you are not familiar with the tune by Lisa Loeb, you can listen here https://youtu.be/6VOGCA7MEAI. In this hectic and ever accellerating world, taking time to linger, especially while out in nature, may be just what you need!
We have so very many visitors enjoy our Little Harbor Loop Trail, jogging or strolling on this 1.5 mile waterside path that connects the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion Historic Site, Creek Farm and Portsmouth Conservation Land. All ages and stages enjoy this popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. As the trail weaves along where the forest meet the tides, there are so many places to just stop and take it all in, and we wanted to encourage our visitors to stay and linger a little longer with us.
Having observed our visitors, we noted a few spots that we knew folks would make good use of a spot to sit whether it was to tie a shoe, wait for friends, take a break or take in the view. With the expertise of AJ Dupere of the Urban Forestry Center and the slabs we milled from the Little Harbor White Pines, we were able to create some Leopold Benches during a bench building workshop as well as some Slab Benches.
This past weekend they were placed around the Creek Farm Reservation and within 5 minutes, walking back from placing another, we found them to already be in use. \We are looking forward to making a few more Leopold Benches in the springtime during another workshop so keep your eyes out.
"Hmmm, And as the years go by,
Hmmm, I'll think of you and sigh.
Hmmm, This is good night
And not good bye."
We look forward to you lingering a little longer!
