Public Meeting on Burial of Transmission Lines is Aug. 6.

Reps. Larry Rappaport and Beatriz Pastor are chair and vice chair,  respectivel, of a subcommittee established by the chairman of the House Science, Technology & Energy Committee, David Borden, to advise the full committee on how to best proceed with a number of bills retained by the Committee from its recent session that address new public policies regarding burial of new transmission facilities.

The second meeting of this subcommittee will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, in Room 304 of the Legislative Office Building at 10 a.m.

Chairman Rappaport reports that this is the first of what will be weekly meetings before the subcommittee completes its report. These meetings are public, and the subcommittee will receive public comments and testimony. Among the bills tasked to the subcommittee retained from last session:

  • · HB 166 - requires the PUC to make specific findings as to the need for proposed transmission lines; Representative Charles Townsend, prime sponsor;
  • · HB 568 - requires all new ELECTIVE transmission lines in New Hampshire to be buried; Representative Larry Rappaport, prime sponsor;
  • · HB 569 - requires all new transmission lines in the state to use state transportation rights of way whenever possible; Representative Larry Rappaport, prime sponsor.
