Conservation Center Welcomes New Tenants

November 18, 2009

The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests recently welcomed two new tenants to its Conservation Center in Concord.

The NH Association of Natural Resource Scientists and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire have moved into the Conservation Center’s French Wing. Located at 54 Portsmouth Street in Concord, the Forest Society’s Conservation Center uses clean renewable energy and other green building technologies.

The New Hampshire Association of Natural Resource Scientists promotes the responsible use of natural resources and the natural resource science professions in New Hampshire, including soil mapping, wetland evaluation, and land planning. For more information, visit http://www.nhanrs.org.

The Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire is the non-profit partner of the N.H. Fish and Game Department. The Foundation raises money to fund the conservation of wildlife and natural places that are important to our family traditions such as hiking, hunting, fishing, and watching wildlife. For more information, visit wildlife.state.nh.us/foundation/index.html.

Both tenants are now installed in the Conservation Center’s award winning, energy efficient French Wing. Constructed in 2001, the French Wing features state-of-the-art building materials, natural lighting design, energy efficiency measures, and low-impact plumbing. In 2003 the French Wing won a gold medal under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The French Wing was the first building in New England to gain LEED approval.

The French Wing and the Conservation Center are open to the public for tours by appointment Monday through Friday, from 9 am – 5 pm. For more information, call 603-224-9945.
