Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sees the government shutdown looming, as well as the expiration of the Land and Water Conservation Fund which is set to expire on Sept. 30, and she warns that both would be extremely detrimental to the economy.

On Friday morning Shaheen and toured the Meredith Bay area which has seen many projects come to fruition through the LWCF, and she stressed why it is important.

“We are all here to call attention to two created emergencies that we are facing in Washington,” Shaheen said. “One is the expiration of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. As we’ve been walking along we’ve been talking about some of the projects in Meredith that the LWCF funded. It was created back in the ’60s – I think it became effective in 1966 – and has been just a tremendous foundation for so much of what has happened in New Hampshire and across this country.”
