Draft 2020 NH Forest Action Plan Available for Public Comment

The New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands released the Draft 2020 New Hampshire Forest Action Plan. Under federal law, a state is required to develop and update every ten years a Forest Action Plan (FAP) in order to be eligible to receive funds under the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act.

However, the benefits of this process go beyond just the ability to access those funds. The FAP provides a comprehensive assessment of the condition of our state’s forests, their challenges and needs, and strategies for conserving these forested landscapes while enhancing the benefits we receive from them. 

The Division of Forests and Lands began the update of the plan over a year ago. In September 2019, the Forest Society provided this letter which outlined the general concepts we believed should be incorporated into the plan. We are currently reviewing the final draft.

The Division is accepting public comment on the draft until October 15. Comments may be directed to:
