Six different half-day field trip choices. Field trips begin at various times and off-site trips end by 3:00 p.m. to be back at Gunstock Mountain Resort for Annual Meeting Registration beginning at 3:30 pm.

1. FULL Bear Island Boat Excursion, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Cost: $40

Bear Island Forest, 154 acres, Meredith
Don't miss this rare opportunity to visit Bear Island Forest Reservation on Lake Winnipesaukee. We’ll travel by pontoon boat from Cattle Landing in Meredith to explore Bear Island’s interior with a break for a BYO picnic lunch. This trip is weather dependent; excessive wind or rain will cancel. Additional fee required. Trip limited to 14 people total. Leaders: Jack Savage and Denise Vaillancourt
Meet at 11:00 a.m. at Meredith “Cattle Landing.” Bear Island hike at 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch afterward and back to boat by 1:30 p.m. for tour around island (weather permitting). Return to dock by 2:30 p.m. to be at Gunstock Mountain Resort by 3:30 p.m.
Uphill hike from dock to island interior, then level hiking. Hike distance approximately 1 mile.

2. Morse Preserve Hike on Pine Mountain, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Cost: FREE
Evelyn H. & Albert D. Morse, Sr. Preserve, 431 acres, Alton
The trail loop at the Morse Preserve winds through fields and forests to reach spectacular views of the Belknap Range, Mount Major and Lake Winnipesaukee from atop 1,400’ Pine Mountain surrounded by blueberry barrens. We will visit the cellar of the former Avery farm. Learn about forest and wildlife ecology, the history of Morse family’s blueberry farm and conservation of the property by Mary Jane Morse Greenwood. Leader: Dave Anderson.
Meet at noon at the Town of Alton parking area for Mike Burke Forest on Avery Hill Road. We will plan a leisurely hike from 12:30 p.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m., BYO picnic lunch to enjoy with the views. We will return to parking area before 3:00 p.m. to be back at Gunstock Mountain Resort before 3:30 pm.
3. FULL Top of the Belknaps Chairlift and Hike, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Cost: $16 (payable to Gunstock Mountain Resort on day of event)

This guided hike from summit of Gunstock Mountain 2,244’ elevation descends the white-blazed “Saddle Trail” then ascends the blue-blazed Belknap Range Trail to the fire tower at the summit of adjacent Belknap Mountain, 2382’ elevation. Enjoy early fall foliage scenery and learn about recreation trails in the Belknaps. Ride the chairlift back down to Gunstock to arrive by 3:30 p.m. Leader: Andy Crowley

4. Weeks Forest Hike, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Cost: FREE
Weeks Forest, 107 acres, Gilford
Enjoy excellent hiking trails and early fall foliage season color for this forestry-theme guided hike at the Weeks Woods in Gilford. Loop trail access to views and more! Weeks Forest includes excellent wildlife habitats including vernal pools, small wetlands, mixed age forest resulting from careful past timber harvests and ample summer fruits, acorn and cones of pine and hemlock. Hike the wide and flat lower loop trail blazed in yellow along logging roads for a 1.3 mile tour. The upper loop adds 0.7 miles along the blue blazed trail for a 2-mile hike. Learn from New Hampshire foresters about timber harvesting and forest structures that provide diverse more wildlife habitat opportunities. 5. Fall Mushroom Identification, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., Cost: $15

This 2.5-hour field trip is entirely at Gunstock.
6. Gunstock Aerial Chairlift Ride, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Cost: $16 (payable to Gunstock Mountain Resort on day of event)
Relax. No hiking required! Enjoy a leisurely 15-minute chairlift ride to the summit of Gunstock to reach views of Lake Winnipesaukee, Mount Washington and the Belknap Range, Ossipee Range, Squam Range and Presidentials. Forest Society staff at the Gunstock Mountain summit will greet members and help to identify features in the view: Forest Society Reservations, local peaks, lakes, islands and surrounding communities. There is opportunity to explore hiking trails at the top of the mountain. The chairlift will be ready to take you back to the base area before 3:30 p.m. for the Annual Meeting registration and check-in. Leader: Tom Howe
