About the Property
Maintained primarily for wildlife habitat and other conservation benefits, locally maintained trails wander through this 90-acre forest, with a fair amount of wetlands, mature forest, and an active hay field. The terrain is mostly flat, and some areas may be submerged in spring as ephemeral wetlands. For those willing to venture off trail, this property features over 500 feet of frontage on the Squamscott River.
This land was settled by the Scammon family in the 1660s and remained in the same family through eight generations spanning over 300 years. The neighboring original Scammon farmstead (privately owned), along with additional surrounding parcels were officially listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023.
While all of our reservations are open to the public, this property may be difficult to access due to a lack of developed recreation features and resources such as signage, parking, established trails, and a detailed Forest Reservation Guide map.
