Two young weasels scamper around on a pile of timbers on a July day. Photo by Frank Allen.

Years ago, we stacked some timber next to the woodshed near the Conservation Center's Rathbun House parking lot. Unfortunately, the wood got buried by the snowplow and forgotten. Last Monday, July 10, I finally decided to dig out and salvage what I could. While I was working, I was fortunate to see a group of somewhere between four to six weasels scurrying among the timbers. I figure that they were a mother taking her kids on a field trip to teach them how to hunt.

I didn't get a picture of them all together, but I was thankful for the ones I could get. By my estimation, they looked about the width of a chipmunk.
