ST. MARY’S BANK BACKS FOREST CONSERVATION
Members switching to e-statements generate $1,000 donation to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests
CONCORD, N.H., July 28, 2009—St. Mary’s Bank donated $1,000 to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests as a result of their successful campaign to encourage members to switch to electronic bank statements. The Manchester-based credit union donated $2 for each of the 500 members that made the ecologically beneficial switch.
“At St. Mary’s we work hard to reflect what is important to our members,” said Elizabeth Stodolski, director of marketing for St. Mary’s. “Members responded positively to the promotion for the immediate benefit of supporting New Hampshire forests and the longer-term benefit of reducing paper use.” Stodolski further explained, “E-statements are not only ecologically friendly, they are more secure and arrive sooner than paper statements.. For the credit union there is a cost savings on postage and paper as well as running the equipment to process statements. Because we are a member-owned credit union, our membership benefits from these cost savings as well.”
“Both the Forest Society and St. Mary’s Bank go back more than a century,” observed Jane Difley, president/forester of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. “Not only are we grateful for the generous donation, but we pleased that so many of St. Mary’s members thought it was important to support New Hampshire’s forests.”
The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is the state’s oldest and largest non-profit land conservation and forestry organization. In order to preserve the quality of life New Hampshire residents know today, the goal of the Forest Society, in partnership with other conservation organizations, private landowners, and government, is to conserve an additional one million acres of the state’s most significant natural lands for trails, parks, farms and forests by 2026.
