Celebrate the Conservation of Black Mountain with the Forest Society on Sept. 25

Join the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests as we celebrate the successful conservation of the 1,025-acre Black Mountain Forest in Sutton. Kearsarge Regional High School will be the site for the dedication ceremony on Sunday, September 25 from noon to 3 pm.

We’ll enjoy views of the Black Mountain Reservation along with remarks, gratitude to donors, and light refreshments. Forest Society staff will offer an optional guided hike along the Lincoln Trail to visit selected features of the reservation, including the mountain brook and scenic views from the interior of the tract.

Late last year, the Forest Society succeeded in raising $1.2 million to protect Black Mountain. Just two years earlier, this land on the shoulder of Mount Kearsarge was advertised as a promising site for a residential subdivision. Now the Forest Society will manage the land as one of its reservations to ensure that it remains open to the public for hiking, hunting, fishing, and other recreational pursuits.

Pre-registration for the celebration and hike is requested. For more information or to register, email signup@forestsociety.org or call Tina at 603-224-9945 ext. 313.

Founded in 1901, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is the state’s oldest and largest non-profit land conservation organization. Supported by 10,000 families and businesses, the Forest Society’s mission is to perpetuate the state’s forests by promoting land conservation and sustainable forestry.
