Portsmouth Street in Concord Closed to Through Traffic
Beginning August 12th Portsmouth Street in Concord will be closed to all thru traffic. The Conservation Center and Merrimack River Outdoor Education and Conservation Area (MROECA, but commonly referred to as the "Flood Plain") will only be accessable from East Side Drive onto Portsmouth Street. Parking for MROECA and all trails will remain accessable during the constructuon period.
The City of Concord with the help of a Department of Environmental Services grant will be replacing the existing 42-inch corrugatted metal culvert at Mill Brook with a new innovative culvert. The new 8 foot high by 16 foot wide precast concrete culvert will be embedded with original streambed materials. It will include a shelf within the culvert for mammalian and semi-aquatic wildlife passage. For human pedestrians, a sidewalk over the culvert will enable visitors to access the trailhead from the parking area.
