Forest Society President Jack Savage joined his colleagues Rob Riley, President of the Northern Forest Center, and Sam Evans-Brown, Executive Director for Clean Energy NH, in support of the BTU Act of 2021.

In 2020, Congress established a three year tax credit for high efficiency residential wood heating appliances. The pending Build Back Better Act (BBBA) as passed by the U.S. House of Representatives includes a 10-year authorization of this tax credit. Unfortunately, the BBBA does not currently include a similar credit for commercial and industrial organizations that wish to install modern wood boilers and heating systems at their facilities.

The joint letter from the environmental leaders asks Senator Shaheen and Senator Hassan to build on their past support for the BTU Act by ensuring the final version of the BBBA includes the long-term residential tax credit and extends it to commercial and industrial users.
