On June 24, the New Hampshire House of Representatives and New Hampshire Senate voted to approve the proposed state budget for fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

The just approved New Hampshire Budget (known officially as House Bill 1) for fiscal years 2022 and 2023 includes $5 million for both 2022 and 2023 for LCHIP. LCHIP is mentioned on Page 98 of the 723 page budget document.

Although other sections in the budget did generate concern among some legislators and interest groups, LCHIP garnered strong bipartisan support during the Legislature’s deliberations on HB 1. This continuation of the program’s funding is well-timed and reflects the public’s interest in outdoor recreation and access to nature, to parks and to greenspaces. It also respond to the on-going unmet need and demand for LCHIP assistance continues even 20 years after the Legislature established the program.

New Hampshire’s natural areas play a key role in the quality of life we enjoy in New Hampshire. The Forest Society is grateful to know LCHIP will continue to have resources to help protect these special places.
