Eversource’s Northern Pass transmission line is the sole project picked for long-term energy contract negotiations with Massachusetts.

All power flowing over Northern Pass’ transmission lines, if built, would be destined for Massachusetts electric customers under a proposal announced Thursday.

“It is fully subscribed,” Eversource New Hampshire President Bill Quinlan told reporters.

CONCORD — The Site Evaluation Committee is about to begin 12 days of public deliberations to determine if the Northern Pass transmission project meets the statutory requirements to be approved.

Environmental advocates for years have been eagerly awaiting a clean energy procurement from Massachusetts, but now that it’s actually happened they’re not jumping for joy.

THE BAKER ADMINISTRATION had to know it was courting controversy by picking Eversource’s Northern Pass project as the winner of a lucrative state bid on Thursday.

“Given that Eversource is directly involved in the decision-making process, the news that Massachusetts selected Northern Pass for the so-called Mass RFP is not a huge surprise.

In a full-page ad in the Boston Globe on Sunday, the Conservation Law Foundation told Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker that the proposed Northern Pass project should be disqualified from the Mass. Clean Energy RFP aimed at reducing carbon emissions because it lied in its bid.
