Women in the Woods - Safe Tractor Use in Your Woodlot

Are you a woman woodland owner, aspiring owner or land manager? Do you have a farm tractor that you are thinking about using in the woods? While tractors have their limitations, when equipped properly they can play an important role in working in your woodlot. Join us for an introductory workshop to learn about how you can safely and productively use a farm tractor as a tool in forest management (primarily harvesting firewood). Participants will learn the parts and functions of the tractor and tractor winches. Additional demonstration style instruction will focus on tractor applications, matching tractor size with specific tasks, safety features and practices, attachments, and basic winching and log skidding techniques. Participants will have hands-on opportunity to work with winching logs. We will also discuss tips and techniques to recognize hazards and minimize risks when working with trees.

Meet and share experiences with other women woodland owners and managers while learning from demonstrations and discussions led by our experienced instructors.
