All Forest Society volunteers are welcome to join us on the afternoon of Tuesday October 12th for an OUTDOOR Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Hay Reservation and the Fells Historic Estate and Gardens in Newbury, NH. The event will include two parts, and volunteers are welcome to come to either one or both.
Part 1 (1-3pm): Sunset Hill Hike. Dave Anderson, Senior Director of Education, will lead a group up to the top of Sunset Hill on the Hay Forest Reservation trails. This hike is about 2.5 miles round trip, with moderately strenuous hill climbs, and a nice view of Lake Sunapee and Mt. Sunapee at the top.
Part 2 (3-6pm): Soup, Salad & Sweets under the large roofed outdoor pavilion at The Fells, across the street from the Hay Reservation. This beautiful facility will allow us to stay dry and remain outdoors whatever the weather brings. We are looking for a handful of volunteers to bring their favorite crock-pot soup/chili/stew recipes in order to supplement the homemade soups that staff are signed up to make--- just let us know if you're willing! We've got everything else covered, so no drinks, desserts or salads needed- hopefully most people can just bring themselves!
RSVP: Email Carrie Deegan at email@example.com to let us know you're coming, how many, and to which part(s) of the day! Significant others/family members welcome! No need to RSVP if you can't make it!
Bring: water, snacks, and dress in warm layers for the hike. Warm clothing is a good idea for the soup fest as well, since the pavilion is open-air. Other than that, just bring yourself unless you're up for making a soup!
