Moose Mountains Reservation Fall Foliage Hike

Join land stewards Jason & Scott for a hike to loop over Phoebes Nable Mt. on Saturday 10/10/15 (rain date will be Sunday 10/11)

We will meet at the parking lot at the end of New Portsmouth Road at 10 am and shortly after will begin our hike up Phoebe's Nable Mt. Trail from the parking lot. It is a somewhat steep trail that follows a logging road and skid trails. Partial views should be visible through the trees east and into the property to the Piper and Beauty Ledges.

Once we reach the summit at ( 0.6 miles 550' elevation gain ) approximately noon time, we will break for lunch. Here a sweeping 180 degree view can be enjoyed to the east to York, ME and over to the Blue Hills range.

From here we will descend via the newly opened PN Loop trail. An easy and gradual trail built the past 3 years by volunteers to be self-sustaining, gentle and easy to walk on. Enjoy a large stone staircase, ledges and boulders along the way!

From the Loop trail we join the Burrows Farm trail which will bring us through the old farm site consisting of a field, 1800 cemeteries and 200-year-old apple trees. There is a good chance of some porcupine sightings as well!

We will continue down Burrows Farm trail along the old carriage road past a stand of flowering witch hazel, a cascade and spring. The trail ends back at the parking lot (1.6 miles) which we should arrive to about 2 p.m.

Round trip 2.2 miles 550' elevation gain, some steep climbing on the mountain trail but good footing.

* All are welcome, including children who are comfortable with hiking. No pets please.
