Member Tour of Carey Cottage at Creek Farm

The Arthur Astor Carey summer house — known as “Carey Cottage” at Creek Farm — was designed by noted architect Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow for Arthur Astor Carey. Built beginning in 1887, the house is an outstanding example of the shingle-style summer home in New Hampshire.  A recent renovation completed in 2021 has brought new life to this beautiful building.

This historic building which is owned by the Forest Society, has now been adaptively reused as a nonprofit incubator. The tenant, GoodWork, brought an innovative, compatible new use to the facility. Creek Farm now serves as the GoodWork Headquarters and provides office, event, and meeting space. Additionally, six below market-rate apartments offer housing options for nonprofit workers.

We will meet at The Education Center at Creek Farm for a slideshow presentation on the recent history of this beautiful property and Carey Cottage. Following the presentation, we will walk over to Carey Cottage for a tour of the newly renovated gem of Portsmouth.
